I've been working with Shopify (my website provider) over the last few weeks on a known issue that has recently come to my attention and I wanted to update everyone on it, especially as we prepare for a monster break drop on Black Friday. There have now been several instances over the last 3 weeks of duplicate teams being purchased from the same break and we've been investigating why that is. Long story short when two or more people try to purchase the same team from the same break at the same time normally the website would allow the first person to purchase to have the spot and then mark the spot sold out, at which point the next time I log in I would erase the team from the break so sold out teams aren't clogging up space. Right now if someone using a payment like a credit card or apple pay vs someone who tries to purchase using PayPal a potential issue occurs.
The person paying with PayPal has their order "leave" the Shopify website to get approval from PayPal for funds and to process the payment. This sometimes takes seconds, sometimes minutes. During this process because the payment is off the Shopify website and not yet approved the website won't show the spot as sold out. If someone else comes in during that time or at the same time the spot might be sold twice. Once payment approves even if the spot is already sold the system still allows for the transaction and hence same team is bought twice.
As of right now, Shopify is aware of the issue, but there is no known fix. One simple solution would be to eliminate PayPal payments on the website. I know I'm one of the few breakers who still accept PayPal and that many of you use that to make your purchases. I hate to remove that option, but the alternative is that those using PayPal to purchase might not get the spot they wanted and either a refund or allocating that purchase to another spot has to happen. Our policy is the FIRST sold order shown in the system gets the spot. For now we are going to continue to allow PayPal to be used on the website, but we'll be evaluating if that's appropriate in the future. So, my suggestion would be to use PayPal as your payment method only if you have to. This will ensure you get your spots and no issues arise. If PayPal is your only method of payment available, we got you. Just know there are a lot of different payment options available to you as well and you might want to start using a different payment method.
I'll do my best to monitor the breaks. I can't be on the website 24/7 so if a spot is double sold and I reach out to you via email, please understand it's nothing I can control at the moment.
